This month’s edition of The Elmbridge and Kingston Magazines looks at Bisley’s new county sports show and an interview with Jane Asher as she performs at The Rose Theatre.

Editor's Letter

I LOVE SEPTEMBER. The ninth month may herald the gradual onset of autumn, but despite the mellow yellowing of the leaves, the slight nip in the morning air and the first signs of Christmas decorations, there is, nevertheless, something tremendously upbeat about it.

We often return to work with renewed vigour after our summer holidays, young children skip to their new schools, and nature’s golden palette bathed in late summer sunshine often succeeds in duping us into thinking that winter is a long way off.

To celebrate this glorious month, we offer you our biggest issue yet, full of cultural highlights from the new autumn schedules.

Between writing novels and baking cakes, Jane Asher still finds time for a spot of acting.

She tells Lucy Johnston (p12–13) how she plans to tackle performing in two concurrent plays at the Rose.

Our theatrical theme continues with the arrival of RC Sherriff’s wartime play Journey’s End at Woking (p18–19), but if music is more your scene you may be interested to hear what the boys of Blake are up to this year (p52–53).

There’s also a new country sports show at Bisley and the heroic story of the Twickenham designer who took on the might of Hollywood and won (p55).

And if that’s not enough, What’s On this month is packed with yet more events around the area.

On the other hand, you could just find a shady spot, lie back and enjoy the natural delights of September instead… Enjoy
