Back To The Future	29 January 2010
Thank you again for your wonderful science competition, Back to the Future, in which both my children were fortunate to win their categories (and Alice overall). Once again, the latest edition of Surrey Downs Magazine arrived safely, dropping onto the mat on Christmas Eve. We were delighted with the photograph and short write-up; but then, so were our neighbours and friends that we saw at a party that night! I was absolutely amazed that, at such a busy time of year, so many people had read the magazine. As I mentioned to you during the presentation evening, I am aware that many of my friends read the Surrey Downs Magazine, as we have had long, in-depth discussions about certain items of interest at our book club meetings. A particular favourite was Samantha Laurie's article on homework at Senior School, which created an interesting dialogue between parents of children at selective and non-selective schools! Well done to everyone at Sheengate for an interesting, thought-provoking and informative magazine. We will continue to be avid readers! Continued... Letter by Ruth James

Dear Sarah, Just had to ask......are you prepared for the flack which your article will draw in this Francophobic land?!! "Wash yourself down, even if they don't" will be a typical response! Tricolourful indeed.....but I wouldn't dissent from one word of it. A wider appreciation of the points made would help us over here to come closer to a real 'good life', avoiding the seeking of it aboard the materialistic juggernaut. And I can say that — even with the emotional autism to which I'll admit! What I wouldn't admit is that there's any chance, let alone intention, of my becoming Colleen. More power to your pen.
